Loyola University Health System (LUHS) and the Loyola University Chicago (LUC) Stritch School of Medicine are offering a full-time faculty position on the clinical educator track (CET) for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Ophthalmologist who is fellowship trained in oculoplastic surgery.

We are seeking graduates of American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) approved fellowship programs as well as non-ASOPRS programs.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong interest and prior commitment to clinical and/or basic science research. Candidates should also have a history of outstanding clinical care and a strong academic commitment to the clinical training of residents and medical students. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience.

Currently, the Department of Ophthalmology manages over 65,000 patient visits per year on the Loyola (Maywood and 4 other satellite offices) and neighboring Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital sites. The Department of Ophthalmology has 8 full-time research scientists. A dedicated team including the Program Director (PD), the Vice Chair of Education and the Chief Resident manages the integrated residency training program with four residents per year. The main Loyola research facility is a 225K square foot Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE), which opened in 2015 and houses the clinical Research Office (CRO) and research administration facilities.

Loyola Residency Program

The Loyola residency program is located in Maywood, Illinois just west of Chicago with 5 other residency training programs with a total of 66 residents and a supportive, collegial, and collaborative educational commitment by all the programs. Our clinically strong program has 12 residents, no fellows, and a dedicated Hines VA hospital where residents manage about 30,000 patients visits per year. They are surgically well trained and last year average surgical volumes included: 343 cataracts, 62 strabismus procedures, 120 intravitreal injections, and 64 plastics procedures. We also have a strong international mission program that started in 1964 with residents traveling with faculty to Guatemala for 1 week. This program has been disrupted with the COVID Pandemic. Finally, we have a structured resident research program, and most residents apply for and receive funding from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness (ISPB) and present their work at ARVO as well as other local and subspecialty national meetings.

RECRUITMENT PACKAGE

Loyola University Health System offers an excellent compensation commensurate with professional experience and benefits package for the right candidate.
