Responsibilities

The successful candidate serves as a technical/scientific resource to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) within the Nuclear Technologies Department and will work within the Nuclear Effects Division. The candidate provides technical advice and recommendations on statements of work, evaluating the technical aspects of proposals, and monitoring contractor technical performance. Assists the government in aligning the portfolio for rapid transition of emerging tools and analytical capabilities to key end-users. The candidate will also provide expertise and assistance in supporting the non-ideal air blast program that supports both the U.S. Army for conventional-nuclear warfare modeling and the UK Ministry of Defence.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in Mathematics (Theoretical or Applied), Physics, Physical Science, or other related mathematical fields, such as statistics, numerical analysis, or pure mathematics.
  • 2+ years of experience applying the degree in a related industry or academic study.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physics and material science.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and understand computational methods.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete tasking with minimum guidance and supervision.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient use in Microsoft Office products.
  • DoD Secret level clearance with ability to obtain and hold a TS/SCI.

Desired Qualifications

  • MS in Mathematics, Physics, or related mathematical fields such as statistics, numerical analysis, or pure mathematics (strongly desired).
  • PhD in Theoretical or Applied Mathematics in any mathematical field of study.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear weapons effects.
  • Knowledge of modeling and simulation, software development, cloud computing.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the DoD acquisition policies.
  • Familiarity with scientific program development, planning, programming and reporting.
  • Holds a current TS/SCI.
