Position Summary: Performs patient care both in the outpatient and inpatient settings under the supervision of a Medical Oncologist. Must possess credentials and current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maine.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
1. Performs direct patient care in a safe, professional manner in accordance with established standards of care and practice.
2. Documents pertinent findings, patient care rendered and patient response in compliance with hospital policies.
3. Collaborates with a Medical Oncologist to formulate an appropriate plan of care based on physical and clinical findings.
4. Assists with the management of unscheduled patient visits.
5. Assists with the management of emergency patients.
6. Provides symptom management.
7. Contacts patients in response to questions and concerns.
8. Adheres to guidelines for appropriate billing and coding all patient encounters. Promptly submits billing information.
9. Gathers pertinent information, interviews patients and performs physical examinations on patients
10. Promptly reports this information to the Medical Oncologist, formulates a differential diagnosis and plan based on this assessment.

Regulatory Requirements:
Masters degree in Nursing Science (MSN)
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred. Required within 2 years of hire.
Advanced Practice Oncology (AOCNP) certification preferred. Required within 3 years of hire.
Minimum of one (1) year oncology experience.
Licensed by the State of Maine as an advanced practice registered nurse (Nurse Practitioner).

Language Skills:
Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Strong written and verbal skills.

Skills:
Basic computer knowledge.
Must be able to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to patients age, physical ability and intellectual development. Must demonstrate proficiency in assessing treatment and responses and adapting care to meet the needs of the patient population; geriatric, adult, adolescent and pediatric.
