Job Summary of the Multi-Modality Technologist The Multi-Modality Technologist is responsible for the day-to-day clinical, technical and operational functions within the Imaging department. This includes, but is not limited to, the efficient, effective procurement, utilization and stewardship of all technical, physical and human resources. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from neonate to geriatric. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assures competency of all personnel. Must be capable of developing, interpreting and administering all policies, procedures and protocols of the department. Must maintain efficient and effective department operations while maintaining compliance with all Joint Commission, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and practices. Must possess critical thinking skills and be capable of assuming complete departmental authority and responsibility in the absence of the Director/Supervisor. The Multi-Modality Technologist is responsible for performing Imaging exams in accordance with standards and practices set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and Radiology Department policies and procedures. The Multi-Modality Tech demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy, disease processes and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of radiographic sciences, radiation protection and specialized techniques. Additionally, he/she ensures that the Imaging department is compliant with all Radiation Right Policies as well as all ACR accreditation guidelines. Responsibilities of the Multi-Modality Technologist
  • Consistently produce images of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric age groups.
  • Follow established imaging and viewing protocols.
  • Operate Imaging equipment in diagnostic radiology, CT and MRI along with all related equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete quality imaging in a timely manner, effectively organizing and prioritizing work flow to meet STAT and urgent demands while continuing to meet OP customer standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in imaging trauma, acute and challenging patients; possess skills to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of disease processes and produce studies that optimally identify related anatomy.
  • Solicit patient cooperation by providing patient education about procedure and expected sensations before and throughout exam.
  • Demonstrate competence in using the power injector in CT and MRI; verbalize limits of use.
  • Scan patients of all ages, tailoring exam to the age/size/weight/special needs of patient.
  • Complete required documentation on forms, logs, work station and Meditech.
  • Label images electronically and identify according to protocol.
  • Review written orders, assess patient medical record for allergies, possible pregnancy and other pertinent data prior to performing study.
  • Communicate with Ordering Physicians and staff to clarify imaging orders prior to completion when necessary.
  • Assist staff with coordinating care across the multidisciplinary care team in order to ensure efficient high-quality care.
  • Ensure related information is conveyed to Radiologist performing/interpreting exam when possible.
  • Assist the Radiologist during invasive procedures, demonstrate knowledge of supplies required and ensure availability.
  • Perform or ensure that daily/weekly/monthly QC tests are done.
  • Adhere to all Radiation Right policies and procedures associated with imaging modality
  • Demonstrate Standards Precautions and/or Isolation level appropriate for patient.
  • Take call on a rotating basis as described by direct report.
  • Display flexibility in work assignment by shift, location and duration of shift, etc.
  • Adjust to variations in volume/workload in an efficient manner. Utilize call techs when appropriate to ensure adequate staffing for add-on procedures and staffing shortages.
  • Demonstrate appropriate customer service skills with all customers (patients, patient's family, visitors, physicians, co-workers, etc.)
  • Maintain QC/PI documentation for equipment in assigned area.
  • Coordinate daily assignments/procedures to ensure optimal operations.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the Imaging Supervisor and Director related to job performance; conduct in a private setting, ask for information to ensure understanding, share expectations.
  • Manage project and perform additional assignments as requested.
  • Serve as clinical resource role model for all Radiology department staff/physicians.
Qualifications of the Multi-Modality Technologist

EDUCATION :

  • Associate Degree
  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program approved by the AMA

EXPERIENCE :

  • 3-7 years of experience as a Multi-Modality Tech in an acute care setting
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience as a CT or MRI Tech

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES :

  • Texas Department of State Health Services - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT)
  • Certified in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT, RTR)
  • Post-primary MRI or CT certification with ARRT must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
