Division of Neonatology at Duke University is seeking a pediatrician to join our infant complex care group. Ideal candidates are early to mid-career pediatricians who have a special interest in caring for children under the age of three, who have special health care needs and are graduates of the neonatal intensive care unit. Candidates must be board-certified, or board-eligible with expectations to be board-certified, in General Pediatrics.

In this role, candidates have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of a well-established Infant Complex Care program with a long track record for excellence in patient care, research and education. The program currently includes pediatricians with training and expertise in caring for NICU graduates, a child psychologist, an Infant Complex Care fellow, two pediatric nurse practitioners, a nurse clinician, a social worker, as well as a team of occupational, speech and physical therapists. The new member of the group will work to enhance existing clinical programs in our Special Infant Care follow-up clinic (SICC), Transitions Medical Home program (TMH) for high-risk infants, and the rapidly growing Pediatric Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Clinic (PCNC) for infants with congenital heart disease.

In addition, this role includes inpatient service time in our transitional care inpatient service where we take care of a subset of chronic NICU patients that need complex care coordination and discharge planning. This team serves as a bridge to discharge home for some of our complex patients and provides continuity of care between our NICU and our follow up program.

On the research front, Duke is a site in the NICHD Neonatal Research Network (NRN) and provides assessment of neurodevelopmental and health outcomes in the years after NICU discharge. Members of the Infant Complex Care Team participate and lead NRN research projects.

Dukes Department of Pediatrics includes over 200 faculty. The Division of Neonatology includes 22 faculty members and 10 fellows (9 Neonatology fellows and 1 Infant Complex Care fellow). The Neonatology faculty currently provide inpatient care at two sites: the 74-bed level IV NICU at Duke Hospital and an 18-bed Level II unit at Duke Regional Hospital. The Infant Complex Care service sees inpatients in the Duke NICU, and outpatients in the Childrens Health Center, and Lenox Baker Childrens Hospital, an outpatient rehabilitation facility.
