Overview

A full-time post-doctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Crompton in the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for a highly motivated individual. The Crompton laboratory is recruiting a fellow to focus on genomic profiling and analyses of human tissue samples and disease models to understand mechanisms of cancer heterogeneity and evolution in pediatric sarcomas. The laboratory uses a combination of next-generation sequencing approaches to profile tumor material from matched tumor biopsies, circulating tumor DNA, and circulating tumor cells. Profiling is performed as "bulk" sequencing experiments and as single-cell analyses to give us a complete picture of genomic and epigenomic heterogeneity and disease evolution. Validation of novel findings will utilize relevant cell line and animal models of cancer.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world renowned clinicians, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. Combining extremely talented people with the best technologies in a genuinely positive environment, we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all ages; we conduct research that advances treatment; we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers; we reach out to underserved members of our community; and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Requirements

Ideal candidates would have experience and a desire to learn to handle human tissue samples, guide bioinformatic analyses of genomic data, and validate findings at the bench. Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with clinicians, other lab members, other research labs, and computational staff is critical for success. The laboratory is situated in an ideal academic setting with unparalleled access to collaborators throughout the Harvard Medical School system and affiliated hospitals. Dr. Crompton has an academic appointment at the Broad Institute and research projects regularly involve collaborations with other Broad investigators. Our proximity to a major hub of medical industry also creates opportunities for collaborations with industry leaders in cancer therapeutics and clinical cancer genomics. Mentorship of the candidate will focus on the development and publication of high-impact research projects and preparing the fellow for a career as an independent academic investigator or for a position in the biomedical industry.
