GENERAL PURPOSE
Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures in a manner as to make the procedure safe, effective, and smooth flowing while adhering to strict aseptic techniques. Also is responsible for the preparation of surgical instruments and equipment as appropriate for the surgical procedure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Checks supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
Helps in draping the sterile field.
Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure.
Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
Prepares sterile dressings.
Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room.
Assists in prepping room for next patient.
Transfers patient to operating table
Positions patient using appropriate equipment
Secures dressings after incision closure
Helps transport patient to recovery room.
Participates in Quality Assurance activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent required
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Scrub Technologist program.
Current certification preferred
Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider required.
Minimum two (2) years of operating room experience preferred
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
Personal Qualifications: Must exhibit courteous communication skills and the ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in the performance of job duties. Presents self in a positive manner as reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
